Nongpoh, June 26: As part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, an awareness programme was held at CFC Hall Umsning to educate young people on the dangers of drug abuse and encourage collective action against the growing menace.
This awareness Programe was organized by the Meghalaya Police academy Umran in collaboration with Ri Bhoi Area Welfare Association and supported by the office of Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police and office of the commandant of 6th battalion, MLP Umran.
Smti. Balakynti Umbah, President of RAWA, greeted the students and encouraged them to actively interact with the resource persons, clear their doubts, and play a proactive role in spreading the message of saying “No to Drugs.”
Delivering the keynote address, Shri Lakador Syiem highlighted the importance of a united effort involving the police, civil society, NGOs, educational institutions, and traditional bodies in combating drug abuse. He stressed that only through collective responsibility can society effectively address the growing challenge posed by narcotics.
Shri Rocky Kylla, Chairman of the Umsning Town Dorbar, urged students to remain vigilant and speak up if they witness anyone consuming drugs or attempting to lure young people into substance abuse.
The Chief Guest, Shri Luke Rymbai of the Kripa Foundation, who is himself a recovering addict, shared his personal journey of overcoming addiction. He appealed to students to learn from his experience and never fall into the trap of substance abuse.

During the open mic session, students from various colleges, along with trainees from the Meghalaya Police Academy and the 6th Battalion Armed Police Training Centre, showcased their talents through performances carrying a strong message on the importance of living a drug-free life.
Among those present were Smti. E.W. Warjri, Resource Person; Shri Orville Massar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi District; Shri Karalang Hoojon, Assistant Commandant, 6th Battalion; the Officer-in-Charge of Umsning Police Station; youth leaders from the Umsning area; teachers; and students.
