Shillong, April 23: Meghalaya is geared up for the first ever state-wide mock exercise for air raid which will be conducted on April 24 (Friday).
The mock exercise named “ARMEX-1 2026” will be carried out in all districts of the State by the Directorate of Civil Defence & Home Guards with the participation of multiple departments and agencies including the Air Force, Army, Fire Service, Power Department, Health Department, Disaster Management Department and others.
The mock exercise will comprise of two stages – Stage 1 and Stage 2.
Stage 1 which will be conducted from 3 PM to 4 PM will involve simulations of search and rescue, fire response, evacuation and medical response, etc. During the process, civil defence siren will be sounded at 3 PM at the start of the mock exercise and again at 4 PM to signal the “All Clear”.
Stage 2 which comprises of simulations on air raid and electricity black out will run from 6:59 PM to 7:02 PM. The civil defence siren will be sounded at 7 PM to signal an “air raid” and the commencement of electricity black out.
The Directorate of Civil Defence & Home Guards has appealed to the people including local headmen to cooperate with the mock exercise which is being conducted to ensure public safety during war situations.
