CAU Imphal’s Two Days Workshop on Cow Management and innovation Concluded at CVSc & AH, Khanapara

Guwahati, July 18: The two-day Workshop on Cow management and Innovation organised by Central Agricultural University, Imphal concluded successfully on July 17 at the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (CVSc&AH), Khanapara, Assam, bringing together scientists, academicians, researchers, farmers, and other stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable livestock management, natural farming, and innovative cow-based agricultural practices.

These two-day workshop was organised under the leadership of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal and was coordinated by Prof. Dwipendra Thakuria, Dean, CPGSAS, Umiam Meghalya.

The program was graced by Dr. Niranjan Kalita, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU), Khanapara, Guwahati, Shri Ullas Kulkarni, Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini Sadasya, RSS, Guwahati and was presided by Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Niranjan Kalita, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU), Khanapara, Guwahati, reiterated the University’s commitment to serving the farming community. He encouraged farmers to approach the University whenever they encounter challenges in farming, assuring them of scientific and technical support. He explained that farmers’ problems are systematically referred to Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), research stations, and the University for research-based solutions, which are subsequently communicated back to the farmers. Dr. Kalita also emphasized that both the Government of India and the Government of Assam are giving priority to enhancing milk production and stressed the importance of adopting scientific breeding and improved livestock management practices to strengthen the dairy sector.

Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, while addressing the gathering emphasized that increasing milk production alone is not sufficient and that equal importance must be given to the quality of milk and dairy products. He observed that commonly held beliefs regarding the health benefits of traditional ghee, the superiority of A2 milk over A1 milk, and the medicinal value of cow urine should be scientifically validated through rigorous research. He called upon scientists and researchers to generate credible scientific evidence to substantiate such claims, thereby promoting evidence-based natural farming and strengthening public confidence in indigenous agricultural practices.

Shri Ullas Kulkarni, Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini Sadasya, RSS, Guwahati, highlighted a simple and practical composting model that enables farmers to convert animal waste into nutrient-rich organic manure. He explained that the model provides a sustainable and cost-effective approach to waste management and serves as an effective alternative for producing high-quality organic fertilizer. He further noted that the technology is particularly suitable for indigenous communities and smallholder farmers with limited livestock, thereby promoting environmentally sustainable and self-reliant farming systems.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to the distinguished resource persons, while certificates of participation were distributed to all participants in recognition of their active involvement and successful completion of the workshop.

The valedictory session commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Lokesh K. Mishra, Professor of College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Iroisemba, Imphal. While the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. M. Norjit Singh, Organizing Secretary, who expressed sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, resource persons, participants, organizing committee members, and supporting staff for their wholehearted cooperation and dedicated efforts in making the workshop a grand success. He also acknowledged the collective commitment of all stakeholders towards promoting sustainable livestock management, natural farming, and scientific innovation for the benefit of farmers and the agricultural community.
