Shillong, June 10: A tense situation was reported along the India-Bangladesh border in the Nandirchar sector near Mahendraganj in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district after Bangladeshi authorities and locals allegedly refused to accept a man pushed back by the Border Security Force (BSF).
According to sources, the individual — who allegedly entered India illegally through the Meghalaya sector — was apprehended by the BSF. The force then attempted to send him back across the border.
However, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents on the Bangladeshi side reportedly declined to receive him, resulting in a standoff. The man remains stranded near the border fencing on the Bangladesh side, with efforts ongoing to resolve the matter through appropriate channels (including potential flag meetings).

No official statements have been issued by the BSF or BGB so far. Videos purporting to show activity in the area have circulated on social media, though their authenticity could not be independently verified.
The incident underscores ongoing challenges in managing illegal cross-border movement and the need for better coordination on nationality verification and repatriation between the two countries. Security agencies are monitoring the situation, which remains under control as of now.
