Shillong, April 19: The Meghalaya government has constituted a Wildlife Crime Control Unit both at the State level and district level.

The setting up of the Wildlife Control Unit is aimed at strengthening measures to detect, investigate and prosecute persons involved in crimes against wildlife.

The State level Wildlife Crime Control Unit is headed by the Chief Wildlife Warden and comprised of senior officials from Police Department, Forest (Wildlife) Department, Customs Department, Border Security Force (BSF) and Widlife Crime Control Bureau.

The district level Wildlife Crime Control Unit is headed by the Conservator of Forest (Territorial & Wildlife).
